Mysterious Snow Pile Spotted in Somerville

The snow was spotted at a vacant lot on Linwood Street Monday.

Somerville, MA -- Residents in Somerville were alarmed after spotting a mysterious snow pile in a vacant lot at Lindwood Street Monday. But rest assured, winter still has not arrived.

The pile of snowy remains was a collection of leftover flakes from the ice rinks around Somerville, City Spokeswoman Denise Taylor told the Boston Globe.

“There’s no mystery or humor involved. It’s just scrapings,” Taylor told the paper.

John Curley, a facilities manager at two local rinks, said the snow was discarded in the lot by Zamboni drivers.

At first glance, the 3 1/2-foot-tall pile had many thinking about last winter’s record-breaking snowfall and whether or not it was still leftover.
