No Somerville Snow Emergency, But Officials Issue Warning

The city does not plan on declaring a snow emergency but advises residents to take several precautions.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The city of Somerville is not planning on declaring a snow emergency as of Friday afternoon, Dec. 8, officials said. Snow is expected to continue throughout the day on Saturday, Dec. 9 into the following morning.

Department of Public Works crews will be on the roads to clear streets of snow and ice. While regular parking rules are in effect, the following regulations should be observed:

  1. Do not park within 20 feet of any intersection so that plows and emergency vehicles can make needed turns.
  2. Park as close to the curb as possible. Cars parked within 20 feet of an intersection or parked more than one-foot from the curb may be ticketed and towed if they are found to be impeding access.

Residents are encouraged to use driveways and consider sharing spaces with neighbors wherever possible. Remember to keep all external vents clear of snow and ice and help the fire department by clearing a path to hydrants.
