UPDATED: Potential Building Collapse Temporarily Shuts Down Davis Square Streets

The area is going to be a wee bit trickier to drive around.

As many Somerville denizens are doubtlessly already aware, concerns regarding the potential collapse of the old Social Security office at 240 Elm St. have forced the closure of a handful of Davis Square Streets.

The Boston Metro reports that Elm Street between Dover and Russell has been officially shut down, meaning Chester and Grove Streets are effectively useless until further notice.

UPDATED: The City of Somerville reports that one lane of Elm Street will reopen at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23. With the exception of businesses on the corner of Chester Street and Elm Street, shops can reopen, and a new investigation into the situation will be conducted Wednesday morning.
