Share Your Memories of Khoury's State Spa

What do you remember about the place?

Our story this week about on Broadway in East Somerville caused some readers to travel down memory lane (And I don't mean the former bar by Assembly Square. That's another story).

One reader sent this to us by email:

"We lived one block away. My dad would come home from weeks at sea fishing....flush with cash. I was say.... 4 years old. He would come home, smiling...bounding up the three stories to our top flat....grab me from (my mother)..who would kinda scream at him to be careful..walk quickly to the bar carrying me and prop me up on the bar to sing and dance. Never got an invite to Star of the Day, though. :) Thankfully...the rest of the fishing crowd could sing and dance so I could sit and eat pistachios and drink as much as I wanted.

I got Coca-Cola and the taste you only get from Coke at a bar like that and I have never forgotten and can occasionally replicate. Pistachios made my hands red. Yes it was an Irish place...but all were welcomed...."

Well, you get the idea. What memories do you have Khoury's? Please share in the comment section below.
