Somerville Bar Going Into 'Hibernation,' Promises Spring Return

A Davis Square pub that operated a patio with a neighboring restaurant will close for the winter Oct. 31.

SOMERVILLE, MA — A Somerville bar that weathered the pandemic with an assist from a nearby pizza parlor will go into "hibernation" this winter. Sligo Pub, which operates the Sligo Dragon Patio with neighboring Dragon Pizza, will close Oct. 31 as colder weather creeps in.

But Halloween won't spell the end of Sligo: "we are hibernating till we open up the patio again in March!!" a statement on the bar's Facebook page reads.

The Davis Square pub was able to stay afloat over the summer with the help of Dragon Pizza, which served its food at the outdoor patio. Sligo does not have a kitchen, which likely would have kept it closed until Phase 4 of reopening.

Similar collaborations cropped up at bars in the area that typically did not serve food.

"Thanks for all the amazing support during this challenging time! We love all y'all!!" the Sligo team wrote on Facebook.
