SOMERVILLE, MA - Officials have decided on the preferred option for the new Somerville High School and you can learn more about it on Tuesday night.

the new Somerville High School will be built around the existing field house and war memorial building, Wicked Local reported. The school's historical 1895 structure will remain standing and will be used by the city.

Members of the city’s High School Building Committee voted unanimously for the layout earlier this month and the next steps will be to look at designs created by architects, Wicked Local reported.
The current conditions at Somerville High School are unappealing at best; the building is decrepit and eating up an alarming amount of energy. There is a chance the school could lose its accreditation if not renovated, hurting students’ chances of getting into their college of choice, according to the Somerville High School Building Committee.

The City of Somerville was accepted into the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MBSA) grant program and is now working on the best “educationally appropriate and cost effective” way to solve the problems, the SHS Building Committee said.
