Somerville July 4 Disturbances End in Four Arrested

A group of 70 at Mystic Avenue fought with each other and police early July 5

SOMERVILLE, MA - Somerville and State police were called repeatedly to the area around Mystic Avenue housing development in the early hours of July 5 for large groups of people lighting fireworks and fighting. Police made four arrests in connection with the alleged disturbances.

Officers initially responded to a fight involving 20 people in the middle of Temple Street, police said. Police said the group and another 20 people moved to the entrance of the Mystic Avenue housing development at 7 Memorial Rd.

A short time later police said the same group had grown to about 70 people and was being extremely loud and chanting "hand's up, don't shoot, Trayvon Martin, F*** the police, F*** the State Police, call the wagon, and neighborhood," a police report said.
