Somerville Police To Protest Black Lives Matter Banner Thursday

Police Union head says Black Lives Matter banner is "demoralizing" to Somerville police.

SOMERVILLE, MA - Somerville police officers will protest Mayor Joe Curtatone's decision to hang a Black Lives Matter banner at the entrance of City Hall over the last year Thursday evening at City Hall. Somerville Police officer and union official Michael McGrath published an open letter to Curtatone last week in which he said officers are "demoralized" by the banner in light of recent violence against police.

The next day Police Chief David Fallon addressed the media and said the banner will stay at City Hall and he supports Curtatone's initiative. The protest is expected to begin at City Hall concourse at 5:30 p.m. Thursday July 28.
