SOMERVILLE, MA – The snow emergency in Somerville was lifted at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon. Once the snow emergency ends, residents have two hours to move their cars out of city or school lots. Vehicles not moved by 4 p.m. are subject to ticketing and towing, city officials said.
Once school lots are clear of snow, they will be open for parking until 7 a.m. Monday morning. Meters will go into effect at 4 p.m. Friday.
Though the ban is lifted, vehicle owners must still allow safe passage for emergency vehicles. To avoid ticketing and towing, cars must be parked within one foot of the curb and no vehicle may park within 20 feet of an intersection. At least 15 feet of road passage must be maintained at all times to allow fire truck access.

Property owners are reminded that sidewalks not shoveled by 1 p.m. Friday afternoon will be subject to ticketing each day until the sidewalk is clear. A three-foot-wide path down to pavement must be cleared and snow may not be shoveled into the street.
Property owners are urged to clear sidewalks as soon as possible, as compacted snow will turn to dangerous ice.
