Somerville Declares Snow Emergency For March 21

The ban went into effect Wednesday as the city prepares for its fourth nor'easter.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The city of Somerville declared a snow emergency for Wednesday, March 21. The emergency parking ban will go into effect at noon, and cars will have four hours to move to the odd side of the street.

You know the drill by now. Metered or city parking lots area available for parking starting at noon; however, elementary school lots will not be available for emergency parking until 1 p.m. as school is in session for a half day. Somerville High School parking lots will be available after 3 p.m.

Those who plan on parking in a school lot are asked to use caution as students, parents and staff may be leaving. Somerville Police officers will be stationed at all schools during pickup time on Wednesday to assist with safety and traffic flow.

Residents who park in a school or city lot must move their cars within two hours of the end of the snow emergency.

Ticketing and towing will begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for cars that are not moved to the correct side of the street or to an off-street parking lot.

School will be in session Wednesday, but after school activities are canceled. All city offices will be open Wednesday, and trash pickup is currently on a normal schedule.For more information, please visit www.somervillema.gov/snow or contact 311.
