Somerville Tackles Concussions Thursday Night

"SomerSafe Sports" will address health risks facing young athletes, especially after a concussion.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone and the Concussion Legacy Foundation will co-host "SomerSafe Sports" at Somerville High School Thursday night.

The discussion will touch on the risks facing young athletes, as well as the district's policy on concussions and returning to play. Concussion Legacy Foundation co-founder and CEO Chris Nowinski will be in attendance and Program Manager for Education and Research Cliff Robbins will present a "Concussions and Our Kids" curriculum.

Last year, the City of Somerville and the Concussion Legacy Foundation partnered for "SomerSafe Sports," a three-year endeavor to make the district a blueprint for concussion education, policy and prevention. Concussion education efforts have increased in Somerville Public Schools since the launch of "SomerSafe Sports."
