Free Orientation for new and interested members who want to get involved with SCATV - the one and only premiere Somerville Media Center!

The goal of SCATV’s Youth Program is to empower the next generation of young people to be critical and creative producers who use the power of media to serve as active agents of change in their communities. SCATV offers a number of developmentally appropriate youth programming for youth of all ages, including targeted intensive workshops, strategic community partnerships with youth-serving agencies, teen internships, movie nights, field trips, and more. Yo! SCATV Raps (February Vacation: Feb 20-24th, 9am-3pm Tuesday-Friday): Do you dream in rhyme? Wanna be the next Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, or Chance the Rapper? It’s time to blow up this February Vacation with Yo! SCATV Raps. Learn the basics of MCing, from delivery to rhyming to mic skills with help from local hip hop recording artists HipStory. Write original lyrics to your own song with a group of fellow artists. Learn how to make beats, edit your music, record your vocals in our studio and then film your very own music video! No one will be turned away for inability to pay. Contact hmack@scatvsomerville.org for scholarship information. Teen Documentary Film (March 8th- April 12th): Taught by accomplished editor, filmmaker, and media educator Vera Ventura, youth in this class will learn the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking and will film their own original short documentaries to be screened at a community showcase, and potentially submitted to local and/or national film festivals. $0-200 sliding scale, Ages 13+.
