Teacher Sara Dion Enters Race For Somerville School Committee
Dion, a Somerville resident and teacher in the Medford Public Schools, is running in Ward 7.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Teacher Sara Dion is running for Somerville School Committee in Ward 7. Ward, 32, is an elementary English learner's teacher in the Medford Public Schools. She has also been a Somerville resident and member of the Somerville Democratic City Committee for four years.
"As a teacher myself, I know the importance of listening to educators and providing them with the tools they need to do their jobs. What's good for educators is good for students," Dion said, having held leadership roles within her union, the Medford Teachers Association, for several years.
If elected, Dion said she will prioritize the demands of teachers in the Somerville Educators Union; offer continued support for improvements that paraprofessionals and the School Committee negotiated in 2020; push back against the corporate high-stakes testing machine; prioritize the social-emotional needs of students and educators; advocate for anti-racist policy and curriculum; and promote dignity for Somerville's most vulnerable students and families.
