VNA Senior Living Alewife Community Celebrates Grand Re-Opening

Renovations Complete at Somerville Senior and Assisted Living Community

With more than 150 people in attendance, the non-profit VNA Senior Living Community at 405 Alewife Brook Parkway celebrated its Grand Re-Opening on Thursday, with President and CEO Linda Cornell leading the festivities. The community had taken 18 apartments offline, moving residents to its Lowell Street, Somerville location this past January, when a pipe burst due to the extreme cold. Since that time dozens of agencies have helped in the re-construction and refurbishment of the building which suffered significant water damage from the 4th floor down through apartments, into the commercial kitchen. Thursday’s event was a happy gathering to unveil the refurbished parts of the community and to thank all those who helped with the restoration, through both construction effort and financial contributions. With residents, their families and outside guests in attendance, including Joe Capuano, representing his dad Congressman Mike Capuano, all also enjoyed a visual and musical Beatles chronology provided by Fran Hart of 4EverFab. The VNA Senior and Assisted Living Communities non-profit mission is to provide a complete lifestyle for seniors, both private pay and subsidized, with or without personal care, in private one-bedroom apartments. The Visting Nurses of Eastern Massachusetts have been providing care in the area for more than 100 years. Announced at the event were the following generous financial donations; Power Options $10,000; Century Bank $10,000; Erland Construction $5000; Tarpey Insurance Group $1500; Winter Hill Bank $1000; Daniel Dennis & Co. $1000; Somerville Kiwanis $500 and A Safe Dryer Vent $25.
