ICYMI: Winter Weather Parking Information for Somerville

With winter weather afoot, parking is likely to become a hassle for Somerville residents. Although the chances of the city calling for a snow emergency on Tuesday are low, Somerville residents should be aware of the city’s parking laws when Old Man Winter comes to town and a snow emergency is called.

Parking is only allowed on the odd-numbered side of the street. Municipal and school parking lots will be available to residents in the event of a snow emergency. The even-numbered side of the street will remain open to allow plows to clear the roads.

Fines during snow emergencies include:

• Failure to move car to proper side of the street: $100
• Tow zone/obstructing a plow: $100 (imposed by towing company)
• Parked within ten feet of a fire hydrant or in a designated fire lane: $100
• Parked within 20 feet of an intersection(state law): $100
