Thousands Lost Power In Wayland After Nor'easter

Outages were up over 1,100 early Thursday morning, but Eversource was working to fix the problem.

WAYLAND, MA — Thousands of Wayland residents lost power during a strong Nor'easter that surged across the region during the early morning hours. The storm brought heavy rain and winds as high as 90 MPH in some parts of Massachusetts.

As of 9 a.m., an initial outage of about 1,150 Wayland residents had been reduced to about 445, according to MEMA.

There were also numerous trees and wires down in Wayland, according to fire officials. Some roads blocked due to storm damage include Pinebrook, Woodridge, Claypit, and Elizabeth. Traffic signal at Cochituate Road and Old Connecticut Path was also not working.

There were over 216,000 people statewide without power Thursday morning, according to MEMA. The storm did especially bad damage to coastal towns like Marshfield and Beverly. Wind gusts hit 90 MPH in Provincetown and Wellfleet, according to the National Weather Service.

In the Metrowest area, gusts ranged between 50 and 55 MPH, according to the weather service.

The entire state is under a wind advisory until 6 p.m. Thursday. The weather service is predicting winds between 20 and 30 MPH with gusts up to 50 MPH in some spots. The weather should be calm by Friday morning, with sun and temperatures close to 60 in the forecast.
