Bobcat Spotted In Wayland Neighborhood: Police

Wayland police shared a reminder that the predator-cats are active in MetroWest.

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland police are reminding residents about some of our wild neighbors.

Police shared a photo of a bobcat walking across the yard of a home along Hazelbrook Road. Although rarely seen, bobcats do call MetroWest home, and are active all year long.

"Those out walking or jogging in the early morning should be aware that these animals are present in the area," police said in a Facebook post Friday.

Bobcats are carnivores, and will hunt small prey like mice, and sometimes pets. Although rare, they have had run-ins with humans. On Friday, a couple in Southbury, Conn., fought off a cat that came for their dog.

Bobcats are more common in western and central Massachusetts, but have been seen in backyards from Worcester to Ashland and Natick. If you want to learn more about the state's biggest predator-cat, visit the state Division of Fisheries and Wildlife's bobcat page.
