The Dudley Pond Association (DPA) held its 13th annual Newcomers Pot Luck gathering at the home of Susan Green and David Poole on Sunday, May 20. Each year since 2005 using real estate transactions gathered by The Warren Group, invitations are sent to all those who purchased or rent property within the Dudley Pond watershed. Generally, 3 or 4 new families attend and learn about the DPA and its commitment to the Pond. The May 20 gathering was unique in that a family of Newcomer Wannabes attended. A young couple and their two adorable young daughters were house hunting around the pond, invited to attend the Pot Luck and took us up on the invitation. We hope we see them at next year’s gathering. Since the Newcomers Pot Luck began, both the DPA and the Town have benefited from newcomers. At the 2005 Pot Luck, newcomers Tom Klem and Cheryl Kreinbring attended. In addition to becoming DPA members, Cheryl updates the Dudley Pond Facebook page and Tom serves on the Town of Wayland Conservation Commission. In 2008, Doron Almog and his family attended the Newcomers Pot Luck and Doron currently serves as the DPA’s President. 2017 Newcomers, Julia Ashton and Zach Kohl are already active DPA members as Julia is our newest Executive Board Member at Large
The DPA’s next town-wide event is the annual Ice Cream Social. On Saturday, June 16 from 2-4 meet your neighbors or make new friends at Mansion Beach (Mansion Road and Lake Shore Drive off West Plain St.) for hand scooped sundaes in a variety of flavors with all the toppings. It’s FREE and yummy.
Later this summer on Sunday, July 29, our Band on a Boat concert is scheduled. DPA members Bob Smith and Mike Lowery lash their pontoon boats together and the Dirty Water Brass Band circumnavigates the Pond entertaining all with their musical talent. You can be serenaded at the Chateau Cove, Rocky Point, Mansion Beach or at any public access point around the Pond. DPA Treasurer, Jamie Peirce is a talented member of the Band.
