WAYLAND, MA — The Local Wayland the Giacomo's are the first two town restaurants to get approval from the Board of Selectmen to offer outdoor dining, but the town is expecting plenty more on the way.

Restaurants in Massachusetts were allowed to begin offering outdoor dining this week when the state entered phase 2 of Gov. Charlie Baker's post-coronavirus reopening plan. Restaurants across the state have been restricted to takeout and delivery since March.

The Wayland Board of Selectmen met Wednesday morning to review plans from The Local, Giacomo's and the Dudley Château. The Dudley Château didn't immediately get approval due questions about handicap accessibility and the size of the dining area.

The Coach Grill is seeking approval for an outdoor dining plan when the Selectmen meet again on Tuesday, and the Dudley will be back to get final approval also. After the Board of Selectmen approval, town restaurants need inspections from the Building Department and Health Department before opening outdoor dining areas.

You can see the plans for each of the first three outdoor dining applicants on the town website.
