GoFundMe Campaign: Vet. Raises Money For Mandalay Shelter

The animal shelter in Mandalay is "most needy I have seen."

WAYLAND, MA—Veterinarian Amy Shroff gave up her clinic in 2013 when she decided to devote her expertise to helping animals in countries where their plight is less protected. She visited Thailand and that kicked off her volunteer work at Elephant Nature Park, which is north of Chiang Mai. She now has 500 dogs, 250 cats, and other animal at a small clinic she built up there.

Her latest campaign focuses on the Royal Heart Shelter in Mandalay, one of the "most needy I have seen."

There are 300 dogs, 75 puppies and 200 cats in dire need of vaccines, deworming, good nutrition and veterinary care. Many are paralyzed, have infectious diseases or wounds, broken limbs and other serious medical issues that need urgent care. The shelter also has no electricity or running water.

"My goals are to remedy these problems with your help," writes Shroff on this latest GoFundMe campaign. "I was there in February and have started this process but it will take a village to save these beautiful animals."
