Local Hair Salon Offers Free Cuts To Furloughed Workers
Wayland's Lauren Craig Salon is offering support to furloughed workers in the form of haircuts.

WAYLAND, MA- The government shutdown has lasted over a month and affected people from Washington all the way to towns like Wayland. For 32 days, government and federal employees haven't received a paycheck.
Lauren Craig Salon in Wayland is offering free hair cuts and blow drys with one of their stylists, Mary Freeman. The salon asks participants to schedule an appointment and present a government ID at the appointment.
The idea for the free cuts and blow drys came from Traci D’Antonio, Education Director and Stylist. D'Antonio wanted to take action after hearing about the government shutdown and asked the salon's newest stylist, Mary Freeman, if she would take furloughed workers. Freeman immediately agreed to the idea and Craig Lebrun, the salon's general manager, made a Facebook post to spread the word.

"We have heard from clients that they have family and friends that have been affected by the shutdown," Lebrun said. "It simply seems like the right thing to do," he said about starting the promotion.
Depending on how long the shutdown lasts, the salon will continue to offer free services to furloughed employees. The salon even plans to extend the promotion past the shutdown, "We’ll keeping going for a few weeks after. It’s not like it will end and everything will instantly go back to normal for those affected," Lebrun said.

He added that the salon has always made time to give back to the community, participating in the Boston Children’s Hospital's annual 'HairRaising Cut-a-thon'.
"We just want to let everyone know they deserve to feel good about themselves," Lebrun said.
Furloughed employees who are looking for haircuts can call 508-358-1662 and ask for Mary.
