Monster 40B: Zieff appealed -- and the Mahoneys back him
n 1 February, the developer behind the Monster 40B apartment complex on Route 20 in Wayland appealed the Wayland ZBA's decision to limit the size of his plan. During the 40B hearings, Zieff refused to discuss any reduction. Now he is refusing to accept the ZBA's reasonable limits on the size of his huge 4 story, 89 bedroom apartment building.

The Mahoney family backed Zieff: We contacted Tom and Susan Mahoney before Mr. Zieff filed his appeal and encouraged them to choose a better alternative.
The Mahoneys still own the property on Route 20 where a Mahoney's Garden Center was formerly located: 115 Boston Post Road in Wayland. The amended 'Purchase & Sale' agreement with Zieff runs month-to-month, so they could end the deal and move on. We told them that other developers were interested in their property -- for a smaller building that will match the limitations of the site, preserve Pine Brook and protect the children at Camp Chickami.

Tom Mahoney refused, "We do not plan on negotiating with any other developers at this time."
