Post Road Liquors Dry for Next 5 Sundays

The store is banned from selling alcohol for the next few Sundays because of a liquor license violation.

WAYLAND, MA - The Board of Selectmen showed some mercy Monday night to a family-owned liquor store that has been in Wayland for over four decades, the Wayland Town Crier reported.

Post Road Liquors failed to ask for identification from an underage customer during a police "sting" back in February," the Town Crier Reported.

Detective Sgt. Jamie Berger said he sent an underage male into the store on Feb. 25 and told him to buy alcohol without presenting identification, the Town Crier reported. Shortly after, the undercover male reportedly emerged from the store with a six-pack of Budweiser.

When Berger entered the building an employee admitted he was the one who failed to ask for identification. The owner fired the employee on the spot, the Town Crier reported.

Post Road Liquors was already on a two-year probation because of a violation from November 2014, the Town Crier reported.

The board of Selectmen had decided that another violation during the probation period would mean a five-day suspension of the store's liquor license, but noted at the meeting that they never said it had to be five consecutive days, according to the Town Crier.

In an act of leniency, the Selectmen decided Post Road Liquors' license would be suspended on the next five Sundays: April 10, 17 and 24 and May 1 and 8, the Town Crier reported.

Post Road Liquors now asks for identification from all customers regardless of age, the Town Crier reported.
