WAYLAND, MA — The Wayland Police Department is kicking off the school year with their annual 'Slow Down Wayland Days' initiative. On August 31 and September 1, the first and second days of the school year, Wayland Police are conducting additional traffic enforcement patrols.
“Officers will be assigned to streets in the vicinity of the various schools in town and will be enforcing speed zones and other motor vehicle violations,” Wayland Police Officer Lynnet Sloan said in a video posted to Wayland Public Safety’s YouTube page.
Police are asking residents and commuters to carefully monitor their speeds as they drive through local roads during these two days.

“The safety of the children and motorists are our primary concern since we all know how hectic the beginning of the school year can be,” Officer Sloan said.
The Wayland Police Department will have several school traffic supervisors assisting children that walk to and from school. Walkers are urged to cross streets at marked locations, which will have a school traffic supervisor wherever possible.
