Volunteers Needed at Claypit Hill Elementary

You can help out at SignUp.com.

WAYLAND, MA — The Claypit Hill PTO is asking for help this upcoming school year. The organization has set up a pair of sign up forms on SignUp.com. They're looking for people to volunteer for a back to school luncheon on Tuesday, August 30 and for kindergarten escorts beginning September 6.

The Aug. 30 event is meant to "welcome back the Claypit Hill Teachers and Staff with a luncheon as they set up their classrooms for the new school year," according to the SignUp page. The SignUp website is exactly what it sounds like, allowing participants to choose which tasks they want to "sign up" or volunteer for.

Most of the spots are taken for the Aug. 30 luncheon: The categories of small plates, forks and two dozen brownies or blondies are all filled (let's hope that person goes with brownies rather than blondies).

The remaining slots are a little intimidating: You could make a "creative recipe - salad/soup/app/dessert" or "vegetarian pasta salad," which sounds wild. There are also open slots for "luncheon set-up" and "luncheon clean-up," if you want to avoid cooking all together.

Claypit Hill Principal Christie Harvey says that teachers really appreciate the back to school luncheon and the help of the PTO in general.

"I meet with [the PTO] and consult with them," Harvey told Patch. "We work together to make sure we are supporting students and teachers."

Harvey said that the PTO is focused on making sure that classrooms have what they need and the students have what they need, as well.

"Teachers love it," she said. "It’s really just the parents showing the teachers that they value what they’re doing."

There are a number of openings for kindergarten escorts. The SignUp listing explains: "We need a few volunteers to help the Kindergarten children find their buses during the first few days of school. This takes about 10 minutes."

Maybe less fun than planning a luncheon, it's still important. Click here to sign up for that job.
