Wayland 2021 Election Results: School Committee Upset Possible

WAYLAND, MA —The preliminary results of the Wayland 2021 spring election are in and show who's leading in the two contested races on the ballot — with one possible upset in the works.

The Wayland Board of Public Works and the School Committee races each featured two seats up for election in 2021. In the public works board race, three candidates were running for the seat Jonathan Mishara is giving up, and incumbent Clifford Lewis was trying to retain his seat.

Meanwhile, newcomer Jessica Polizzotti was beating two-term School Committee member Kathleen Steinberg, and had the most votes in the three-way race. Incumbent Ellen Grieco appeared to be on the way to keeping her seat.

Wayland is also getting two new Board of Selectmen members out of the election. Candidates Adam Gutbezahl and Carol Martin were the only candidates who signed up to run for two vacant seats.

According to the Wayland Town Clerk, turnout in the spring election was 15 percent, or 1,619 out of 10,000 registered voters. Compare that to the June 2020 town election when 27 percent (2,549 of 9,559 registered voters) cast a ballot.
