Wayland Child Luring Was Misunderstanding: Police

Last week, a young girl reported a man tried to lure her into his car. The man visited police over the weekend to explain what happened.

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland police say a child-luring incident reported along Rice Road last week was actually just a misunderstanding.

A young girl on Thursday reported a man had asked her to get inside his car along Rice Road. Wayland police released a description of the man and an artist's rendering of what he looked like and asked the public for tips.

On Saturday, a man went to Wayland police to report that it was him they were looking for. But the man, who speaks with a heavy accent, told officers he was trying to help the girl along busy Rice Road.

"Being from the area, the male party knows the road to be dangerous, especially for a child, and was only trying to help her safely cross the street," Wayland police said in a social media post over the weekend. "With this new information officers spoke with the child and it was determined that the male was the individual and that the matter is in fact resolved."
