Wayland To Hold 4 High School Graduations
Coronavirus canceled the original Wayland 2020 graduation. The district will hold four beginning July 25.
WAYLAND, MA — When you can't have one graduation, you have to settle for having four.
Wayland Public Schools will celebrate the high school class of 2020 next week by holding four small graduation ceremonies. The graduations are being spread out to allow families and students to stay socially distant amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on July 25 and 26 at the high school football field. Each ceremony will feature about 50 students, who will be seated on the field in small groups with appropriate space between each person. Families will also be able to watch from the stands.

School districts across the state have either canceled 2020 graduation ceremonies, or offered something similar to Wayland's plan where small groups of students graduate outdoors. Coronavirus is thought to spread more easily when people are grouped together indoors.
Milford is planning an Aug. 8 ceremony similar to Wayland's, where students will be seated on the football field and parents in the stands. The high school has prepared several scenarios in case coronavirus cases are on the rise by then. Marlborough held several small ceremonies in early June with groups of 22 students.
