Wayland Man Named Patriots 'Difference Maker Of The Week'
Wayland's Bob Cook was being highlighted for his work volunteering with the United Way of Tri-County Call2Talk mental health program.
WAYLAND, MA — A Wayland resident was named the New England Patriots "Difference Maker of the Week" last week for his work volunteering for a mental health support program run by the United Way of Tri-County.
Bob Cook has been a Call2Talk volunteer for the past 17 years, according to the Patriots. Cook and other Call2Talk volunteers talk with people who are experiencing emotional distress, suicidal ideation and other mental health problems.
Cook also volunteers with the United Way's TeleCheck program, which reaches out to local people over age 60 to offer support during difficult times.

"I learned the value of volunteerism at an early age from my mother," Cook said, according to the Patriots. "She very quietly made a difference in the world as many do. I have been fortunate to attempt to make a difference as well with the support of my family, friends and amazing fellow volunteers."
Cook also volunteers at a local hospice and as a volunteer Wayland Middle School track coach.
