Wayland Resident Journeys to Lebanon for Save the Children
Sejal T. Srinivasan of Save the Children's Boston Leadership Council Visits Syrian Refugee Children in Lebanon
Recently, Save the Children’s Boston Leadership Council member Sejal Srinivasan of Wayland travelled to Lebanon along with Joe Ramrath, Paige Hornor, Mahsa Khanbabai and Zoher Ghogawala to witness first-hand the challenges faced by Syrian refugees. These dedicated and passionate advocates traveled across the world to see the good works being done by Save the Children field workers under extremely difficult conditions
The mission of the group was to witness the situation in Lebanon and learn about the help provided by Save the Children in the field. Of particular interest was the Mobil Library purchased with donor funds raised in November at Save the Children’s Boston Leadership Council’s inaugural event, Celebrating a Future for Every Child. The library van carries books, games and learning tools, making it possible for displaced children to continue their education and get back to a place of learning.
Wayland resident Sejal Srinivasan shared poignant and enlightening reflections garnered from her experience. Sejal urges us to remember that the people behind the headlines are human beings who once had homes, families and livelihoods just like you and me. They were stripped of all these basic human needs by war and conflict. Notwithstanding their plight, Sejal was struck by the enthusiasm of the children and their families, and the relationships and sense of community Save the Children staff has built with the families. Save the Children takes a multi-prong approach that enables the team members to not only reach more people, but to make a real difference to the families they touch.

“I was struck by the enthusiasm of the children and their families for education. They crave to learn…whether it was a child in the Early Childhood Development or Return to Learning program, or a young adult in the Food Security & Livelihoods program, they were eager to show off their newly acquired English, coloring or block sorting skills.”
Sejal and the group were moved by the resiliency and the compassion of the people they met and returned with renewed enthusiasm and dedication to, make a difference in the lives of these people.
