WAYLAND, MA — The Wayland 2021 town election is on Tuesday — one year after the coronavirus pandemic changed how Massachusetts residents vote — and will feature a hybrid of in-person and absentee voting.

Due to the pandemic, Wayland voters will have the option of casting absentee ballots by mail. But the town will also offer two in-person voting sites on Election Day.

Here's everything you need to know about the candidates running in 2021, and how to vote.

In-person voting

Polls will be open in Wayland from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day at these polling places:

  • Precincts 1 and 4 — Town Hall, 41 Cochituate Road
  • Precincts 2 and 3 — Wayland Middle School, 201 Main St.

Absentee voting

The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot was May 5. If you received one, you can mail it to the Town Clerk. It must be received by 8 p.m. on May 11, or it won't count. Address ballots to the Town Clerk, 41 Cochituate Road.

But at this point, the best option is to drop off ballots either in the vestibule at Town Hall, or the drop box outside the police and fire buildings, 38 Cochituate Road. You can also deliver your ballot to the Town Clerk's office, but you must make an appointment.

Election Results

The Wayland Town Clerk typically releases preliminary election results a few hours after polls close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. We will have the results posted as soon as they are available. Sign up for the Wayland Patch email newsletter to get alerts.

Who's running

In 2021, two Board of Selectmen members — Lea Anderson and Mary Antes — are not seeking reelection. Trust Fund Commission Chair Adam Gutbezahl and Finance Committee member Carol Martin have stepped up to run for the two open seats.

On the School Committee side, incumbents Ellen Grieco and Kathleen Steinberg are running to keep their seats. Former Sudbury teacher Jessica Polizzotti has stepped up as a challenger.

There is also a four-way race for the Board of Public Works. Jonathan Mishara is not running for reelection in 2021, but member Clifford Lewis is. The board will play a big role in town affairs because it will help decide how Wayland reduces the elevated levels of PFAS found in the town's main water supply.
