WAYLAND, MA — After appearing for the first time on the state's list of red "high-risk" communities for coronavirus, Wayland has fallen off the list thanks to fewer positive tests.

The state uses two key metrics to determine whether a city or town is high-risk: the number of new daily cases per 100,000 residents, and the community-wide positive test rate. The week ending Jan. 7, Wayland was adding 54 new cases per day per 100,000 people, and the positive test rate was just above 5 percent.

Over the week ending Jan. 14, new daily cases actually rose to 54.6 per day per 100,000 people. But the positive test rate dropped to 4.32 percent.
