Wayland Town Meeting 2016: What You Need to Know
Mainstone Farm, North Cemetery, Budget issues: How will you vote on April 7.

WAYLAND, MA - Wayland's annual town meeting is Thursday and registered residents will be able to vote on major town issues. Here's a breakdown of some important subjects that will be covered at this year's meeting.
The meeting will be held Thursday, April 7 starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Wayland High School field house.
- Budget issues including: a revolving door fund for the Wayland Town Beach; a recreation stabilization fund; the omnibus budget; funding a reconfiguration of the five-points intersections; and much more.
- Protecting Mainstone Farm.
- Transferring control of the 202 Old Connecticut Path land parcel to the library trustees for library use. The property would act as a proposed site for future library expansion. The other potential site is at 5 Concord Road.
- Changing the date of future annual town meetings to later in the spring.
- Appropriating funds for a council on aging and community center at Wayland Town Center.
- Appropriating funds to restore monuments at North Cemetery. The project seeks to repair approximately 97 monuments and headstones.
- Appropriating funds to build a new Regional Vocational Technical High School under the Minuteman School Committee.
- Whether or not the town will increase real estate exemption sums for taxpayers who qualify including: certain blind persons; veterans; and surviving spouses and seniors.
- Whether the town will honor former Wayland Town Clerk (1977 to 1986) Grace I. Bowen who passed away on Nov. 13 as well as the following town and school employees who retired this year: Dexter Chadsey, Teacher at Claypit Hill School, 39 years of service; Christine Brown, Athletic Trainer Substitute, 33 years of service; Carol Lucenta, Clerical School Department, 32 years of service; Thomas Cavanaugh, substitute teacher, 31 years of service; Deborah Bearse, Principal of Claypit Hill School, 23 years of service; Donald Gladu, Transfer Station Foreman, 22 years of service; Judith Courchine, clerical school department, 22 years of service; Paula Dettorre, human resources assistant, 21 years of service.
