Wayland Youngster Jessie Aufman Passes Away
The girl, who battled Sanfilippo Syndrome, passed away from the genetic disease on Wednesday.

WAYLAND, MA -- Well-known Wayland youngster Jessie Aufman passed away on Wednesday morning. Aufman, 13, suffered from Sanfilippo (san-fi-LEE-poh) Syndrome, a terminal genetic disease that causes sugars to build up on the brain, progressively inhibiting movement, speech and cognitive abilities.
Patch staffer Brooklyn Lowery reported that Aufman’s mom Cari Cornish posted on Wednesday, “Our sweet Jessie passed away peacefully early this morning. She had a joyful life, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make it so.”
The town and schools came together for many fundraisers for Aufman, including Jog for Jessie in 2011.
