Wayland's The Villa Restaurant Closes Again Due To Coronavirus

Staff at the restaurant tested positive for the virus, but did not come into contact with the public, health officials said.

WAYLAND, MA — The Villa Restaurant in Wayland has closed down for a second time in 2021 due to a coronavirus exposure, according to town officials.

The restaurant's owner notified the town on Tuesday that staff at The Villa had tested positive. Health officials said none of the staff had contact with the public. The restaurant will close for a deep cleaning until at least Thursday.

"The Health Department has completed a contact tracing investigation and the restaurant is providing full cooperation," a town notification said.

The Villa closed for a week on Jan. 21 after a staff member tested positive. It was the third closure in Wayland over due to the virus over the winter after Mel's Commonwealth Café and the Dudley Chateau.

As of April 1, Wayland had added 33 new coronavirus cases over the two preceding weeks. The town was adding cases at a rate of 17.8 per 100,000 per day, and the town wide positive test rate was at 1.71 percent, according to state health officials. The town was listed as a yellow moderate risk category.
