What’s Open, Closed New Year’s Day 2021 In Wayland

WAYLAND, MA — On New Year’s Day, Marlborough residents will leave behind a year marked by unprecedented hardship and challenges. After spending much of the year navigating the once-in-a-lifetime coronavirus pandemic, many will no doubt welcome 2021 with open arms.

As we ring in the new year in our town, many local facilities and government offices will take the day off to recognize the start of the new year.

Here’s a look at what’s open and closed in Marlborough on New Year’s:

• Town government: Town employees will be off on Jan. 1, except essential workers like police and firefighters.
• Wayland Public Library: The library is open by appointment for seniors only on New Year's Eve, and is closed Jan. 1.
• Public transit: There will be no MWRTA bus service on Jan. 1; MBTA commuter rail trains are on a weekend schedule, and the entire Worcester-Framingham line is being reduced due to employee shortages.

However, if you’re hoping to step out for some socially distanced shopping or dining, there are several stores and chain restaurants that will be open on New Year’s Day.
