Even beyond this, school is repetitive. I learned the same Civil War facts in fifth, eighth, and eleventh grade. I think I read The Giver in multiple English classes. And this is just the stuff it’s embarrassing to have repeated. The actually important skills - how to write essays, how to cite sources - get deliberately repeated year after year. (I still have no idea how to cite a source properly, except a vague memory that something called “MLA Format” was very important, and that there might have been another thing called “Chicago Style” unless I am confusing it with pizza. When I actually need to cite something, I hit the “Cite” button on the top right of PubMed and do whatever it says.) So my prediction is that an average student could miss a year or two of school without major long-term effects. Their standardized test score would be lower at the end of the two years they missed than some other student who had been in school the whole time. But after a short period they would equalize again. I don’t think you need to burn yourself out working overtime to send your kid to a private school, I don’t think you need to risk your immunocompromised kid’s health to send her to the classroom, I think you can just chill. I want to present some of the evidence that makes me think this.

GROSSE POINTE, MI — A 57-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man was arrested at Audubon and Kercheval Avenue April 16 after crashing his car around 6 p.m. Police investigated and took the man into custody for operating while intoxicated. Two residents reported mail being stolen from their porches: a resident in the 1200 block of Beaconsfield and a resident in the 800 block of Nottingham. There are no suspects at this time. A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a 2003 Chevy in the 1300 block of Maryland overnight on April 18. On April 22 a resident in the 1400 block reported their iphone stolen from the front porch after leaving it there. Several unlocked vehicles were broken into near Harvard and Grayton overnight on April 20.
