Six Apple Valley seniors were awarded Discovery Scholarships from Flint Hills Resources. Tanner Rayman and Anne Shutt from Apple Valley High School, Caitlyn Keo and Leah Norman from the School of Environmental Studies, and Samantha Zarate and Jon Dorsch from Eastview High School received scholarships.
A total of 26 students from 13 schools in Dakota and Washington counties each received a $2,500 scholarship for the 2012-2013 school year. The scholarship recipients were chosen based on demonstrated leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and each had a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher. This is the 21st year Flint Hills has provided scholarships to college-bound local students pursuing careers in math and science.
“At Flint Hills Resources where we employ hundreds of scientists and engineers, we recognize the great importance of these professions,” said Scott Lindemann, vice president and manufacturing manager for Flint Hills Resources. “We are proud to support these talented young people from our local communities as they pursue futures in these fields.”

Since 1991 Flint Hills has awarded more than $565,000 in scholarships to 426 deserving students from the community.
