Two and two students qualified for the state debate tournament, scheduled for Jan. 13-14 at the University of Minnesota, according to a District 196 news release.
The students had top finishes at the Section 3 debate tournament at Rosemount High School to qualify.
Luke Stuttgen of Apple Valley High School finished first in Lincoln-Douglas debate and fellow AVHSer John Granlund finished second, the release says.

Ashesh Rambachan of Eastview High School and classmate Ryan Mather of Eastview also qualified in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
In Lincoln-Douglas debate, students argue the merits of values, like liberty or order, for example. This year’s Lincoln-Douglas resolution is, “Resolved: It is morally permissible for victims to use deadly force as a deliberate response to repeated domestic violence.”

This will be the 111th state debate tournament, the longest-running event of the Minnesota State High School League.
