Apple Valley High Schoolers Win VFW Essay Contest

students Mariam Omar and Sydney Otundo are winners in the Voices of Democracy audio essay contest sponsored by the Rosemount VFW, according to a school district announcement.

Both won for the second year, the announcement says. The students wrote an essay on the topic “Is There Pride in Serving in Our Military?”

The Veterans of Foreign Wars has sponsored the Voices of Democracy contest since 1947, in which more than 50,000 high school students compete for more than $2.3 million in scholarships at the local, district, state and national levels.
