Senior Health, Financial Programs Offered at Dakota County Libraries

The Dakota County Library is offering free programs on senior health and financial issues.

Topics include Medicare, including Medicare Part D, health care directives, long-term care insurance, financial planning and avoiding scams.  

Insurance for the Long Term explores types of long-term care insurance policies, how they work and what to look for when choosing a policy. Thursday, Sept. 13, 7–8 p.m., Heritage Library, 20085 Heritage Drive, Lakeville. Presented by Linda Walker with Volunteers of America.  

Understanding Medicare covers changes to Medicare and reforms in the Affordable Care Act. Make personal comparisons using the medicare.gov website and the Health Care Choices book. Monday, Sept. 17, 6–7:30 p.m., Pleasant Hill Library, 1490 S. Frontage Road, Hastings.  

Family Caregiving provides resources for family caregivers including respite services, support groups, health insurance counseling and more. Thursday, Oct. 11, 6:30–8 p.m., Robert Trail Library, Rosemount.  

Senior Scams—How to Protect Yourself provides tips to prevent becoming a scam victim. Friday, Oct. 19, 10–11:30 a.m., Burnhaven Library, 1101 W. County Road 42, Burnsville. Presented by elder law attorney Kris Maser in partnership with Augustana Regent at Burnsville and Maser, Amundson & Price, P.A.  

Medicare Part D teaches how to navigate through options available to seniors from their Medicare Part D provider. Friday, Nov. 2, 10–11:30 a.m., Burnhaven Library, 1101 W. County Road 42, Burnsville. Presented in partnership with Augustana Regent at Burnsville.  

Advanced Health Care Directives helps seniors know how to make their end-of-life care choices known. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2–3:30 p.m., Robert Trail Library, Rosemount.  

Legal and Financial Planning for the Future provides resources that can help pay for future medical and long-term care as well as steps to ensure legal documents are in place. Friday, Nov. 16, 10–11:30 a.m., Burnhaven Library, 1101 County Road 42, Burnsville. Presented by attorney Mary Frances Price provides in partnership with Augustana Regent at Burnsville and Maser, Amundson & Price, P.A.
