Apple Valley Man, 42, Loses 'Courageous Battle' With Depression

Brian Downey, 42, died last week after battling depression. He lived in Apple Valley.

APPLE VALLEY, MN — Brian Downey, 42, died last week after a "courageous battle" with depression. He lived in Apple Valley. Downey took his own life on Thursday, June 15, according to his obituary.

Downey loved fishing with friends. He also loved his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and driving his semi. Downey would have turned 43 on June 26.

Downey is survived by mother, Peggy Downey, his stepdad, Dennis Swanson, his sister, Shelly Recer (Charlie Recer) and their children, Holly, Natalie, Cody, Grady, Wesley and Riley. A visitation will be held at Henry Anderson Mortuary (14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley) on June 26 from 4 to 7 p.m., according to Sun Thisweek.

A funeral service will be held at Lakeville's Hosanna Church 9600 163rd St. W. on Tuesday, June 27 at 11 a.m.
