Charges Dropped Against Man Accused Of Throwing Child Off Slide

The Dakota County Attorney said the man is incompetent to stand trial.

APPLE VALLEY, MN— The criminal charge of third-degree assault against the man whom police say threw an 8-year-old off an Apple Valley water slide has been dropped, The Associated Press reported.

Dakota County Attorney Kathryn Keena filed the motion to dismiss the charge against Roman Alexander Adams, 20, of Maple Grove, stating he is incompetent to stand trial due to his "severe autism," the publication reported.

Police alleged that in 2018, Adams picked up and threw the boy off the top of the waterslide at Apple Valley Aquatic Center while they were waiting in line, causing the boy to break his leg, reports said.

According to reports, Keena said it is "exceedingly unlikely" that Adams will ever face trial due to his “pervasive, lifelong mental disorder.”
