Crooked Pint Restaurant Proposal Clears the Apple Valley Council

Construction will likely start as soon as the snow melts this spring, the owner told council members on Thursday.

Apple Valley City Councilor Clint Hooppaw hopes the upcoming arrival of Crooked Pint Ale House may help spur development in the city's Cobblestone Lake area.

"It takes a little bit of guts to put these two brand new restaurants into a development that honestly was pretty slow there for a while," Hooppaw said at a regular council meeting Thursday night, referencing Crooked Pint and the recently completed Pizza Ranch. "I think this will help kick-start things in there again."

Hooppaw and the other councilors voted unanimously on Thursday to approve a conditional use permit for on-sale liquor sales and a site plan for the new restaurant, which will be located at the corner of Pilot Knob Road and 157th Street W.

Building plans call for the 5,448-square-foot restaurant include outdoor dining and a bocce ball court. A portion of the outdoor dining area would also be covered by glass walls and a glass ceiling that could be retracted in summer months. Construction on the restaurant will likely begin as soon as the snow melts this spring.

The restaurant will be owned by Dan Peterson, a Stillwater resident who also owns the neighboring Pizza Ranch. Crooked Pint, described as a "nouveau urban pub," also has one location in downtown Minneapolis.

"We’re happy to be in Apple Valley, and our business so far with our Pizza Ranch has been accepted quite well," Peterson told the council. "We’re looking forward to the baseball and softball and all that this summer."

"Thank you for coming again back into our community and providing a beautiful establishment," Apple Valley City Councilor John Bergman told Peterson on Thursday. "This adds to the beautification of Cobblestone and the continuation of development out there."
