A 23-year old Rosemount man has been charged with two felony controlled substance counts after police responded to a call regarding a physical altercation in which the suspect admitted to biting his girlfriend three times in a vehicle at Diamond Patch and 136th St. in Rosemount.
According to a Dakota County criminal complaint, Rosemount police observed a red-faced and apparently bloodied male kneeling and “constantly spitting” outside of a red Pontiac at approximately 12:50 p.m. on April 18 after responding to a report of a physical altercation. The male was later identified as Joshua Thomas Mullin.
The complaint states that Mullin told the officer that he and his girlfriend had an argument, but that both were fine and didn’t require assistance. Mullin told the officer his girlfriend had punched him in the face.

Another officer arrived on scene and began interviewing a female, identified only as R.D.R.K. in the complaint, who admitted to punching Mullin during the altercation.
Both individuals were taken into custody.

While speaking with R.D.R.K. about the incident, the second officer heard what was described as “glass clinking noises” as the female moved her hands about in her pockets.
When asked by the officer if she had anything that could harm the officer, R.D.R.K. responded “no” and pulled out two marijuana pipes.
The officers conducted a safety pat search of both individuals and discovered additional marijuana pipes and a clear wrapper containing two pills on Mullin.
According to the complaint, Mullin initially told the officers the one pill was ibuprofen and the other was a muscle relaxer for which he had a description. Upon a search of the vehicle, officers discovered what they identified as methamphetamine pipes, several small baggies and a scale, as well as five cell phones.
In a mirandized statement, R.D.R.K. told officers that she had gotten into a fight with Mullin and attempted to leave the vehicle but he refused to let her exit the vehicle. During the ensuing altercation, she stated that Mullin began biting her on the arm and after the third bite, she retaliated in self-defense by punching him in the face.
In his own mirandized statement, Mullin admitted that the pipes were his and that R.D.R.K. did not know they were in the vehicle. He also admitted to biting R.D.R.K. “two or three times and possibly pushing her.”
One of the pills on Mullin was subsequently identified as Xanax.
Mullin has been charged with two counts of fifth-degree controlled substance possession, each carrying a maximum penalty of up to five years and/or up to $10,000.
Mullin was also charged with misdemeanor domestic assault which carries a maximum penalty of up to 90 days and/or up to $1,000.
