Letter: Bipartisan Effort by Rep. Wills a Breath of Fresh Air

GOP's Wills worked with DFL to propose veterans hiring tax credit.

For all the talk of hyper-partisanship at the Capitol, it’s important to keep in mind that good work is still being done by legislators who have the best interests of Minnesota at heart. I opened the paper this morning to find that on Monday, freshman Representative Anna Wills, who represents Rosemount, Apple Valley, and Coates, stood alongside DFL Senator Chuck Wiger and DFL Secretary of State Mark Ritchie at a press conference to announce a veterans hiring tax credit, designed to incentivize job creation for veterans in our state.

It’s encouraging that the first piece of legislation to be chief authored by Representative Wills is a bipartisan effort with widespread support from both sides of the aisle. I’m glad to see that rather than adding to the partisanship at the Capitol, she’s willing to work with legislators on both sides to accomplish something positive for our state. If more legislators adopted this bipartisan attitude, we would see a lot more work getting done at Saint Paul. I want to thank Rep. Wills for working on this legislation, and finding a way to bring Democrats and Republicans together rather than increasing the divide.
