Mosquito Treatment To Start Up In Apple Valley

Metropolitan Mosquito Control District trucks, helicopters, and staff ​will be conducting surveillance and treating wetlands in the city.

APPLE VALLEY, MN— Metropolitan Mosquito Control District trucks, helicopters, and staff will be conducting surveillance and treating wetlands in Apple Valley for mosquitoes, the city said.

MMCD staff may need to cross private property for access to check and treat areas for mosquito larvae, the city said. MMCD staff asks that the community stay several feet away and keep kids and animals distanced, the city said.

MMCD activity may include:

  • Wetland surveillance to determine if ponds or swamps have mosquito larvae
  • Pulling off grates and inspecting catch basins to check for mosquito larvae
  • Ground larval treatments on wetlands with a hand spreader or backpack
  • Helicopter larval treatments
  • Applying control materials to neighborhood catchbasins
  • Setting or collecting traps to survey where and what types of mosquitoes are active.
