The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a settlement with Spectro Alloys Corporation, effective Monday, May 17, 2021. In a press release, the EPA stated that they would require Spectro to upgrade air pollution control equipment in order to reduce air emissions at their facility in Rosemount. The upgrades, which will cost at least $1 million to install, will help protect the environment and public health. They will also be required to pay an additional $110,000 civil penalty to resolve the outstanding violations.

After a series of meetings with representatives from Spectro Alloys Corp, the EPA and MPCA, and residents, the City of Rosemount is confident that the governing agencies are taking steps to ensure that this serious situation has reached a resolution point. We are pleased to see that Spectro Alloys is taking responsibility for their operation and acting to remedy the issue. We will continue to monitor the progress and work with the EPA, MPCA, and Spectro Alloys to stay informed and ensure that our residents are safe.
