EAGAN, MN— The Eagan Fire Department joined the list of fire departments that are "MnFIRE Aware" on April 7, Sun Thisweek reported.
Becoming "MnFIRE Aware" is an emotional wellness training that focuses on helping firefighters talk about mental illness and deal with emotional trauma, the publication reported.
The training was hosted by Minnesota Firefighter Initiative, which is an organization that advocates for mental health resources for firefighters, the publication reported.

“By participating in this important training, Eagan proved that the health of their hometown heroes is a priority,” George Esbensen, MnFIRE president, said. “There’s a health crisis in the Minnesota fire service and it’s more important than ever that firefighters across the state are aware of their heightened risk for cardiac, emotional trauma and cancer issues.”
