Young children are eager to learn and play. Early childhood is a remarkable time of psychological, physical, social and academic development. Learning is a social process in which children grow through play, exploration and inquiry and families are children’s first and most influential teachers. Every child has unique strengths and children thrive in a safe environment where their needs are met through mutual respect, nurturing and consistency. Strong family, school and community partnerships help ensure a child’s success in school.

District 196 Connections Preschool gives all children an opportunity to interact with others in fun, engaging activities while learning important skills. The Connections Preschool curriculum helps young learners develop skills in creativity and the arts, language and literacy, mathematical and scientific thinking, physical skills, and social and emotional skills. Personal responsibility and independence increase as children grow and develop.

Parents are children’s first and most important teachers. Parent involvement is key to ensuring children’s school success, now and in the future. Parent engagement opportunities and parenting education are offered through Connections Preschool. Children will build relationships with others while learning important developmental and pre-kindergarten skills. Connections Preschool curriculum is aligned with the District 196 K–12 curriculum and the State of Minnesota Early Childhood Indicators of Progress. Preschool supports families with activities, open communication and transition to kindergarten opportunities.

All Connections Preschool teachers are licensed by the Minnesota Department of Education in Early Childhood Education. All staff facilitate learning by individualizing activities and carefully implementing curriculum while engaging children in fun and meaningful activities.
